Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh said that Afghanistan is ready to purchase one million tons of gasoil and 200,000 tons of LPG from Iran each year.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with Afghan Trade and Industries Minister Humayun Rasa, he added that negotiations over prices of the products are still underway.

Zangeneh also said that the main needs of the neighboring state, with gasoil as the most significant, were discussed during the meeting.

He put the current export of gasoil to Afghanistan at nearly 200,000 tons per year, noting that the country has announced that it will increase the gasoil import from Iran to one million tons a year.

The two countries will continue the talks over oil products’ prices and Iran is scheduled to present its proposal, Zangeneh said.

The Iranian minister also said that the other issue discussed during the meeting with Rasa was exporting LPG to Afghanistan. They want to buy 200,000 tons of LPG from Iran.

Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah arrived in Tehran Monday at the head of delegation on a three-day visit to the Iranian capital. He is the second Afghan high-ranking official visiting Iran this year.
