Iran put an end to the monopoly exercised by the US, Spain and Britain in producing hot tapping systems, according to an official here Saturday.

Managing Director of East Azarbaijan Gas Company Valiollah Dini made the remarks while talking to IRNA.

Having acheived this, he said, Iran has become world’s fourth country with the capability of manufacturing hot tapping systems.

Hot tapping, or pressure tapping, is the method of making a connection to existing piping or pressure vessels without the interruption of emptying that section of pipe or vessel. This means that a pipe or tank can continue to be in operation whilst maintenance or modifications are being done to it.

Dini said development of hot tapping systems was made possible throug reverse engineering at the cost of 1,900 million rials.
