South Korea is keen for cooperation with Iran’s Isfahan province on environment protection issues, a senior South Korean parliamentarian said.

In a meeting with Governor General of Isfahan province Rasoul Zargar Saturday evenin, Yung Pio Hung who is the chairman of the environment and labor committee of the South Korean National Assembly said growing protection between the two sides could help tackle the province’s environmental problems.

Noting that his country has already achieved very high standards in environmental sciences, he voiced readiness to transfer the experiences and the knowledge Isfahan province needs for dealing with its living environment.

He also called for the establishment of a direct flight between Seoul and Isfahan and urged signing of sisterhood agreements with the Iranian historical city and one of South Korean cities.

The Isfahan Governor General said the implementation of a comprehensive plan of action on air pollution in the province has been of good results.

However, he said, the province has still got much to do in resolving the air pollution problem.

Isfahan is the capital of Isfahan Province in Iran, located about 340 kilometres south of Tehran, on the main north–south and east–west routes crossing Iran. The city was once one of the largest cities in the world specially during the 16th and 17th centuries under the Safavid dynasty, when it became the capital of Persia for the second time in its history.

Isfahan is famous for its Persian–Islamic architecture, with many beautiful boulevards, covered bridges, palaces, mosques, and minarets and a wide variety of historic monuments.
