Iran and Turkmenistan signed nine documents of cooperation here on Sunday.

The documents were signed after a ceremony where Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani officially welcomed his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.

The Turkmen President is in Tehran to take part in the 3rd Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) which will commence on Monday.

The documents focused on various sectors, including healthcare and medicine, posts, construction of power lines, sports, transportation, roads and railway, standard organization and TV and radio.

So far, the presence of presidents of Bolivia, Russia, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria, Venezuela and Iraq has become certain. Turkmen president will also attend Monday meeting as a special guest.

Russia, Iran, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and the United Arab Emirates, are main members of the gas exporting body. Observer countries are the Netherlands, Iraq, Oman, Peru, Azerbaijan and Norway.

GECF members account for 42 percent of global gas output, 70 percent of global gas reserves, 40 percent of pipeline gas transfers, and 65 percent of global trade of Liquefied Natural Gas.
