Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said here on Thursday that Iran has planned to attract foreign investments, worth $28 billion, in electricity projects in the next few years.

Talking to IRNA, Chitchian said some 47,000 to 50,000 MW of electricity should be added to the country’s electricity generation capacity within 10 years.

He said that the country needed to make significant investment to meet the goal.

‘The foreign investors are planned to finance roughly $28 billion of electricity projects in near future,’ he added.

Putting the current Iran’s electricity generation capacity at 73,000 MW, he added Iran needs to attract foreign investments to overcome its problems due to sanctions imposed against the county.
