Iran and the European Union spent an important part of their long meeting on Sunday on reviewing the draft resolution to be tabled by the P5+1 group of world powers before the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a top Iranian diplomat told IRNA. [Iran, EU discuss draft IAEA resolution] ‘There were decisions made so that everything will move in the direction of implementation of the (nuclear) Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),’ Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi who is also chairman of the JCPOA Follow-up Headquarters said after meeting EU Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmidt in Vienna. ‘The meeting took two and half hours,’ said Araqchi who participated in the negotiations also attended by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, deputy foreign minister for Europe and America. To a question suggesting that the new report by IAEA chief has ambiguities which can leave Iran’s Past Military Dimension (PMD) case open, he replied, ‘The (resolution of) Board of Governors (of IAEA) will decide whether to close the case or not.’ ‘Although the IAEA report has failed in making a final assessment in certain sections, its assessment is very clear. It says Iran’s activities did not go beyond research.’ ‘The IAEA’s admitting that Iran did not move beyond research level rejected the claims which have been heard in the last 12 years.’ Iran and 5+1 are scheduled to meet on Monday in Vienna.
